Does your vacuum have a roller brush? Does it collect hair like there’s no tomorrow? You can use a [seam ripper](https://i.imgur.com/as3VyK2.png) to easily cut the hairs without risking damage to the brush. You simply slip the point under the hairs and then push through to cut them.
